‘Uh oh! He’s going to talk about religion and in turn, insult my belief in Sciencetology and how it doesn’t make any sense, claiming that it sounds as if someone made it up while high off a mixture of alcohol and heroin.’
Only joking, I’d hate to offend any of the 12 Sciencetologist out there. However, deep down, we all know that it’s not a real religion because spell-check considerers it a spelling mistake, and there is no way that I’m going to live in a world where spell-check is wrong. As unsympathetic as that sounded, we all need ‘labels’ to exist in this world, whether that be male, female, black or a Chinese Hindu (what I like to call Chin-du) and I suppose that’s fine.
In the past, I labelled myself as a Christian, a label that i can no longer claim to be anymore. Not because of my pure evil nature and joy I attain from replaying recorded Oxfam adverts from Sky+ while eating a big wedge of cake, but because I don’t know how to be a Christian. What defines one to be considered a Christian? Do i have to believe in Jesus to be one? Do I have to attend church on a weekly basis to be one?
It is this very reason why i claim to be part of no organised religion. Faith however, i consider to be of a different nature, a personal relationship with something ‘bigger than me’. Faith is something that i consider to exist within us all; a default setting embedded within us, if you like. Although i am dead inside; i have faith in you all, i have faith that you are happy with who you are. I have faith that you will always do the right thing, regardless of how i hate you all.
Some believe that faith is something to be shared; mostly through discussion and prayer, while others are timid and dislike to share or ‘evangelise’ their faith out of modesty.
Issues however arise when our faith or beliefs dictate our actions, leading to the harming of others, something that we are all very well aware of in present times. And, in a way, reinforces my negative view and realist stance that the very idea of having faith; love and respecting each other, is simply against human nature.
Now, you’re thinking; ‘whoa, maybe this guy isn’t as twisted as I thought? That made a little sense’
Well you’re wrong, not only am I twisted but I also like watching endangered species fight to the death with the track ‘Survivor’ by Destiny’s Child playing in the background. I suppose that it is easier to claim to believe in a higher power than it is to claim to believe in nothing at all. I also think the thought of being judged after death and sentenced to either heaven or hell is an easier alternative to digest than to simply rot in the ground and feed those hungry hungry hippos worms.
Whatever, I’m not here to tell you what to believe, that’s the Government’s job, all I ask of you is this; believe in what you want to believe because you believe it, not because the alternative is unbelievable.
